A plant requires sun, clean water, and healthy soil to thrive. Add food, shelter and space to roam for animals. For humans, add clothing, energy, and community. Again & Again Farmstead uses permaculture methods and techniques to meet all of the basic needs of plants, animals, and humans in a multifaceted, multidisciplinary system.

Amy and ETHAN SAGER'S HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

We are first generation farmers. How we arrived at farming is a curious tale. In 2015, Ethan was working on a video assignment in Roxbury, MA. The job was to create a short reel on the work the Urban Farming Institute (UFI) was doing. The UFI farm had an incredible effect on anyone walking by.

The work UFI did was inspiring to the core and soon after we began our own growing journey, building out a massive container garden in our small, dusty Portsmouth, NH courtyard. Up until then, we had done nothing as empowering as producing our own food.

Over the years, we have always been avid nature lovers, hiking the White Mountains whenever we could. Tamworth, NH has always been a special place for us to start our hikes, and we grew a fond relationship with the Sandwich Range Wilderness.

Soon after moving to Tamworth, we discovered Permaculture. Ethan earned his Permaculture Design Certificate from Geoff Lawton's incredible program. It was only after learning from Geoff, we understood everything that happened in our lives was leading us to Permaculture.

Permaculture was the missing link we needed to live a fulfilling life working closely with the universe and it's infinite opportunity. Now, we're all in.

The Permaculture Approach

Our approach to farming generates soil, stores carbon, and promotes diversity in nature. We harvest nutrient-dense foods, raw resources, and mother nature’s wisdom. Again & Again Farmstead seeks to knowledge share, strengthen the local economy, and contribute to the resilience of our community with high-value products made from the abundant wealth our ecosystem provides.

World Class Sheep

Our sheep system is the largest system on our farm. A silvopasture, pasture, and lambing pen hosts 22 - 30 head of heritage sheep. Our Clun Forest flock is complimented by a small selection of mixed Scandinavian breeds. A small amount of diversification adds resilience to our sheep system in addition to a variety of wool in natural color.

May through November our ewes and lambs graze intensively in an electrified mobile fence. We move them every one to two days. The ram and wether flock work our silvopasture. The sheep are fed local hay, tree fodder, and supplemental organic grain during the cold season.
